Below are Perseus spectrum recordings available for download for anyone interested. These are Perseus WAV format files compressed using WinRAR, they are not audio files. Perseus SDR software (or equivalent) is required to play back these spectrum recordings. If you don’t have a Perseus SDR, then go to Microtelecom’s download page and grab the free demo version which you can use to “play back” these spectrum recordings. All recordings were made by me at my home location in Michigan, USA unless noted using a BOG antenna of about 500 feet in length, unterminated oriented E-W.
Longwave:
Decent conditions November & December, 2010 that brought in several longwave broadcasters from across the Atlantic:

Shortwave:
This recording covers about 4 minutes beginning at 0137 UTC focusing on 5828 khz to 7428 khz from October 10th, 2010 and includes numerous shortwave broadcasters and aviation utilities, 41 meter amateur band, etc.:

February 9th, 2011 saw nice conditions on the 49 & 41 meter shortwave broadcast bands, so I captured the moment. This recording covers 6000-7600 khz for a duration of about 5 minutes centered at 0300 TOH:

Here’s an odd one – perhaps a station jamming E10 on 6840 khz – very strange:

Here’s a bandscan of the 49 meter band with a wide variety of shortwave broadcasters present covering 5635-6435 khz. Check out the spook signal on 5800 khz:

Australia’s ABC Domestic Service was coming in recently on a cold November morning, and in my excitement of finally hearing these outlets on the 120 meter broadcast band, I made a spectrum recording. There’s a trace of a signal on 2368.5 khz which I presume is the carrier from Radio Symban.:

A presumed very low power pirate beacon can be heard in this spectrum recording on 4094.36 khz CW ID’ing as “AZ” – perhaps a desert beacon from Arizona?

Shortwave DRM:
Sample recordings containing strong DRM stations resulting in very good decodes:

Pirate Radio:
There was a lot of activity during the weekend of January 15th, 2011, all represented in the long captures below. At one point, there were at least four pirates operating simultaneously on the band! Represented here are stations WHYP, Undercover Radio, WEAK Radio, KBLK, Pirate Broadcasting Network, Radio Magnetic Pole, Wolverine Radio, and possibly others:

More spectrum grabs from the 15th are currently being uploaded and will be linked here soon.
Here’s “The Big Q“, a sporadic pirate station heard here occasionally on 1710 khz. More details here and here. The station can be best heard when tuned to 1710 khz upper-sideband:

Notes:
6860 khz (2354 UTC) & 6950 khz seem to have mixing products from the MW band at times***
6840 Khz CW – 2244 UTC – Pirate CW Beacon “BA” (running 1 watt – signal very faint at this time) mixing with E10 numbers station w/ YL reading phonetic letter groups on the same frequency in USB.
6899.6 khz AM – 2145 UTC – Pirate “WBNY” – “Commander Bunny” announcement @ 2311 UTC
6930 khz USB – 0004 UTC – Pirate “The Voice of Doom”
6937.5 Khz AM – 2159 UTC – Pirate “Witch City Radio” (the op said he was running just 6 watts)
6939.9 Khz USB – 2145 UTC – Pirate “WLDJ” (ID @ 2159 UTC & SSTV image transmitted at 2218 UTC)
6945.1 khz LSB – 2223 UTC – Unid, foreign language traffic
6950 khz USB – 2302 UTC – Sign-on by Pirate “Wolverine Radio” – huge signal overpowering the local WGVS imaging product on 6950 khz. Nice SSTV capture at 0039 UTC.
6960 Khz USB – 2145 UTC – Pirate “WEAK Radio”
6977 USB – 2214 UTC – Non-pirate MARS net traffic
Mixing products of local BCB stations pop up periodically (like WGVS/WGVU 6860, 6940, 6950 khz, etc.) – My external preselector was not switched in during this session – dohh!

Can you add a WideFMbroadcasting Perseus+BandII-Downconverter recording ?
WRplus-1.04 is able to decoding it quite well.
Look at:

Francesco
I do not own a downcoverter for my Perseus, so I am unable to provide any wideband FM recordings – sorry 🙁
Hi there Kilokat7,
My name is Jan and i live in Spijkenisse about 15 miles west of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
I have a question, can you make a mediumwave scan?
from 531 to 1700 kHz?
Thanks,
73’s
Jan
Some MW recordins towards Europe would be quite interesting..
